Gwyneth Paltrow has been doing some lighter media hits in recent years, stuff she would probably never deign to do back when she was a full-time actress. But now she’s a lifestyle brand with a podcast and a Target line, so she has to (shudder) try to appeal to the grubby masses by (double shudder) slumming it on the Call Her Daddy podcast and Hot Ones. Gwyneth’s Call Her Daddy pod interview was actually okay if you enjoy vintage gossip (which I do). Her Hot Ones video is different though. Like, she clearly believes she’s above this. I imagine she fired whoever convinced her to do this. As far as handling the extremely hot sauces though, she did pretty well. By the time she got to Da Bomb, you could see that she was basically forcing herself to go into a trance-like meditative state to handle the pain.
One of the big headlines I saw from this was Gwyneth’s quotes about her favorite herbs. She has a huge herb garden at her Hamptons estate, and Sean Evans referenced that garden and asked about her herbs. Gwyneth proceeded to get snotty about DILL! She said: “I love all herbs except for dill, which should be illegal. It’s so gross. It ruins everything and anything it touches…[it’s] dominant and just bad.” As for her favorite herb, she said: “I know it’s boring, but basil is my favorite. It’s just so fragrant and it’s so optimistic. It smells like summer and tomatoes.” Is dill really that bad? It depends what it’s paired with – you can just throw dill into just any dish. Dill with a potato salad or chicken salad? Amazing. I guess that makes me a dill peasant though.
